1. Click Start, choose Control Panel, and then choose System and Security.

2. Choose Power Options and then select Choose What Closing the Lid Does from the left pane.

   The Power Option settings allow you to change your laptop’s reaction to closing the lid.

   Windows 7 offers three lid-closing options: Do Nothing, Hibernate, and Shut Down. You can also choose whether your computer should require you to enter a password when it’s turned back on. (Passwords are always a good idea.)

3. Choose the option you want from the drop-down list.
